New Member ( New to me ) 1998 Volvo V70 XC questions
Hi all I'm new to this forum. I've been a Volvo owner for years since I got into a serious accident with a old V70 and the medic that rescued me said had I not been in that volvo I would be dead. So I replaced it with the exact same model and color as the one I totaled. After 180,000 miles and lots of abuse I sold it for $900 So I just bought a new (to me) 1998 Volvo V70 Cross Country XC dives amazing well 120,000 miles on it. Got it for $6,000. It is the most comfortable, perfect driving car I've ever known. But I have a few weird problems
Most recently I have this very intermit-in problem when I've been driving I hear this high pitch whine that grows to a whistle then to a siren that sounds like a fire house siren.
The sound eventually goes away and doesn't come back for days. The sound seems to be coming from the right side. The car has a low pressure turbo and it's located on the right side. Could that be the problem ? Also it usually occurs when it's raining. Also I did a quick search and found this tidbit of info.

The only other problem I've encountered is the fog lights act up. I brought it to a Volvo dealer and paid $$$ for them to "change" the bulbs, it worked great for 2 days then went dark. Then last week I did a stupid thing and left an interior light on all night and the battery needed a jump. As soon as I got it running again the left headlight worked for 2 days now is off again.
Other than that the car is perfect ( and yes I ran a car-fax on it and nothing was wrong with it )
Any hints before I take it in for service. Remember I know NOTHING about cars lol

Next time it happens if you can pull over and pull the dipstick and see if the noise goes away.
Also if you can check for power at the foglight.
The headlights commonly go bad.
