Default Where to place O ring on XC70 oil filter?

Two weeks ago, I posted a message here requesting information on how to change the oil filter on a 2006 XC70, specifically where does the O ring go. Just one response, and that was a suggestion to check the archives.

I checked the archives several times, but I could not find any post that gave details on how to position the oil filter O ring so that the canister does not leak.

Compared to forums on Roadfily, where you can expect a dozen or more veryhelpful replies to just about any question or issue, this forum is fairly inactive. Can I get some help here or can someone direct me to a forum where I can get some serious responses?

My thanks.

Default RE: Where to place O ring on XC70 oil filter?

I just changed the oil filter on our 2001 yesterday. First off, take the filter canister cover off and you should see the old o-ring on it. If it is there, simply put the old one in the same place. On ours, I had to put the o-ring on the lowest groove (the one fartherst from the open end of the cover)

Hope that helps

Oil filters for this car are the cartridge type. Your replacement paper filter should come with a large diameter O-ring. The O-ring fits around the base of the plastic housing that holds the filter. There is a circumferential grove in the housing for insertion of the O-ring.
