volvo 2002 xc 70 tried suggestions - key still gets stuck
Help !!
We bought this car used in 10/06 with 52,000 miles. Like other posters, the engine shuts off, but the key gets stuck in the ignition. We have tried: jiggling wheel and turning key hard;restarting the car; moving shift several times; have had new cellunoid (sp?)installed; a new igntion has been installed; and the dealer has sprayed it with some type of lubricant. The key still gets stuck ! I am fearful of driving the carbecause I am afraid I will be alone somewhere and unable to remove the key.To top it off, last week my husband was in the house, heard a noise, went to the garage and the air conditioner fan had come on by itself !! The keys were hanging up, and the car had not been driven in two days. I thank in advance any suggestions out there -

Hello. I had the same problem with my 1998 V70XC. We tried everything that you had listed, with no luck. Then we figured out that the shifter-**** wasn't "popping out" all of the way when shifted into park; this will keep the lock from releasing the key. Lube the shifter-****, all is well in the world.
This sounds like a bad ignition cyl. If you take it to a dealer a wait a week or so they can order you a new one and use your old existing keys. This way you dont have to pay for new keys and the programming. And you wont have two different keys.
The key in my 2002 V70XC stuck just once several years ago, and has not done it since. The dealer couldn't find anything wrong at the time. I still leaves me a bit paranoid, though. Some Swedish gremlin is lurking. The Ghost of King Olaf?
