2004 hood cable removed then hood closed
Earlier I removed the hood release cable from what I thought was my parts car (2004 xc90 t6) and left the hood held ajar by the safety release. My son saw that the hood was not closed all the way and proceeded to push the hood down to lock both sides of the hood down...yes it was an accident but now I need to get the hood open so I can pull the engine and rebuild the transmission. I have spent several hours trying to trip the hood locks without success. I have removed the headlights and remove the two bolts holding each lock and cannot get to the mechanism to trip the hood locks on the bottom of each lock. Since there is no cable connected to either mechanism and access is difficult I have not been able to open the hood. Will I now need to disassemble the front of the car to get them released? Please help me end the recurring nightmare hood dream.
Update: I used a twist drill to make a 1/2" hole in the side of radiator support where I estimated the cable to attach to the bottom of the hood latch mechanism. This allowed me to trip the hood release on the passenger side almost immediately by pushing a flat screwdriver through the hole. The driver's side was more difficult as I needed to insert a small rod bent with a 1/4" 90 degrees bend at the insertion end to pull to trip the latch vs push. Most of the time (10 min) was to find a rod with enough temper to make the pull of 35 lbs of pressure to trip the latch...hope this helps those in this situation.
