2005 T6 Transmission Failures
My 2005 T6 has already had a transmission replaced at 25K miles (under warranty). The replacement transmision recently slipped gears with 32K miles and the dealer said that it was "older" version of the engine management software code which caused it to happen. Has anyone else had a problem?

RE: 2005 T6 Transmission Failures
Welcome to the forum, I hope you find some answers.
If you search, you will find quite a few threads on the same issue. Please refer to those threads, all I can tell you is that the tranny on the L6 models came with GM-built units that are known to fail prematurely (one person reported that he/she bought a brand-new XC90, drove out of the dealer and the tranny died on the spot).
Check to see if your XC90 came with the GM unit, and if it did, I am not sure if there is a fix. The tranny was an absolute fiasco and Volvo has note yet admitted their fault.
I am not sure what is causing the tranny to fail prematurely. It could be poor manufacturing, faulty design or assembly line comprised of people who cannot understand English, etc... Since it is defective anyway, you could perhaps try some crazy fixes such as using different type of fluid, adding Lucas fluid stabiliser, or just flush out the original fluid and replace with specified fluid. Also, if there should be software upgrade for TCM, try it.
Sorry I couldn't help you better.

P.S: Note, that introducing different type of fluid other than the specified fluid, into the tranny will void the warranty.

Having the same problem with my tranny. Just prior to a transmission breakdown, I feel a slight surge in the tranny, then I loose all my dash lights and various other electrics. When this happens, the engine continues to run and I drive in what appears 'in a downshift mode'. Sometimes I can restart the car imme. Other times, I have to wait a while to restart. Very limited on my driving distance. This is my latest problem. TCM code shows up on diagnostic.{sometimes} Is there a fix to this problem??????
