Default 2005 XC90 Key won't turn off

2005 XC90 Automatic V8 FWD

Car sat for a year or two, I just got it. I had to press the white button down under the shifter to get it to shift. Now it shifts and drives fine. But when I parked after the test drive the key won't turn off, stops half way between 0 and 1. Car can start back up and shift again and drive no problem, but I had to disconnect the battery and leave the key in it. Any one had this one before? Is it a problem with the shifter/linkage/tumber? Any info is appreciated.

If the shift **** is not pressed all the way down that can happen. That is the whole **** needs to be pushed down - so whack the top of the **** gently with your hand - and see if that helps (the **** is simply pressed on, and sometimes gets pulled up slightly when people get frustrated when they cant get it out of park.)

Thanks hoonk, I gave that try but no luck. But I did figure out that if I flip that white switch up under the shifter that I pushed down to get it to shift out of park then it releases the key. However I need to push the switch down again to drive. I'm guessing this means it's the white switch?
