Default Volvo XC90 oil leak problem

Hi there,

I bought a 2005/12 Volvo XC90 2.4 D5, and I have some problems with it,

in the second foto I circled the thing (whatever it does, if you could please explain). The problem is that it leaks oil there, I bought a new gasket under the valve cover and im on my way to change it. So, will the gasket fix my problem or does the thing that I circled should do or go anywhere? In the second photo I also circled the unknown thing to me. Does it have any function? Maybe there's something missing? Please respond. Thanks.

P.s do I need a computer to adjust my valves after I take the cover off? Because I want to change the gasket myself.

The oil leak appears to be the valve cover. No, you don't need a computer to adjust your valves after the cover comes off.

Please take a photograph from further away as I cannot get a good look at the part and where it is located in the engine compartment.
