Default 2006 XC90 Displays False Warning Messages

Yesterday my '06 XC90 gave me a "Brake Failure" warning message and my ABS warning light came on.

I took it to get looked at today and was told my steering angle sensor shorted out (~$500 to repair with labor) and that there might be an issue with a seal around an electronics housing near the windshield wipers.

They said the seal is notoriously defective and water leaks in an interferes with the sensors. They don't know if it's actually happening on mine because they will have to take the panels apart to see. It's a $40 part with about $260 in labor.

I don't want to pay that much only to find out it's not the issue. Is anyone familiar with this issue and/or the part that (might) need to be replaced? If I can buy this part myself, I'd rather install it myself.

Thanks in advance.
