2007 XC90 3.2 Rear end auxiliary drive failure
Hey Guys
So i was driving home from work today, and suddenly i hear a high pitched sound coming from the engine, i pullover to inspect it but i couldn't locate the source of the sound, shortly after i continue driving i get a message service "Power system service urgent" it immediately occurs to me that my R.E.A.D bearings must have gone bad. i pulled over a second time and observed that the alternator wasn't rotating (but it spins and makes noise if i turn it with my hand). i was able to drive it home safely. i have searched the web looking for a replacement unit but i cant seem to find any. Getting one in my locality is next to impossible except i buy a new engine.
Please i would appreciate what ever information is available on how i can purchase this unit. any help would be greatly appreciated
Very many thanks.

You can't buy it on its own. Each one is mated to the engine it came with. It has to be rebuilt.
However, it could just be the alternator pulley. On the serpentine belt side, the pulley is a one way clutch type. On the alternator side, I've seen the bolt loosen up.

Thank you sir. after work tomorrow i would take off the intake and inspect the alternator pulley. i would post my findings, i am really hoping that's the only problem.
Thank you sir! for your spot on diagnosis, i took it apart yesterday and the bolt that holds the sprocket was loose, i put some locktite and reassembled everything back, it took me 4hrs to complete.
