2007 XC90 - Whistle
Hi,
I have an 2007 XC90 3.2L. The car makes a whistling noise and if I unseat the dipstick, it goes away. This is a well documented problem of a clogged oil trap or faulty PCV valve. When I say well documented, it's very well documented for the 2.5L engines, but there is essentially nothing for the 3.2L engines. The online Chilton shows nothing for PCV or air traps.
I was about to start taking off the manifold to find the oil trap (since that's where it was for the 2.5L), but fortunately one of my many searches pulled up a parts site that was selling a 3.2L air trap. It appears to be a part that sits right on top of the engine, super easy to access. I pulled this off and it looked pretty clean and no evidence of clogs in any of the openings. I'm assuming at this point that there is a PCV valve on this air trap and that is what is faulty.
I'm heading down to the dealer today to pick one up (need it ASAP). Can anyone tell me if I’m on the right path with this part?
Thanks!

I replaced that and the whistle has ceased. No clogs anywhere so must have been the valve hoopamaju that comes with the oil trap. $220 at the dealer, but saw it online for $150. Couldn't wait.
Thanks for the feedback.
