Lost ALL oil in less than 2mos, really, really bad smokescreen, loud tapping.
Apologies to another member, planetguitar, for using his YouTube video, but this, the noise and the smoke, is EXACTLY what my car is doing, though I think my smokescreen is denser. The car was making a high pitched whine during acceleration. It would stop whining as soon as I let up on the accelerator. That was Thursday. Called mechanic, we both thought it was the tranny. He said I could make some short trips til he could look at it on Monday. Took it out once. Got to appointment.
1-1/2 hours later as I started it up, noticed it was smoking pretty bad. At this point there were no warning signals on the dash. No check engine light. No icon for oil system. No light for low level like there is for low fuel. NO WARNING ALERTS!
Got out, checked oil -BONE DRY! How could that be? It was 6500+ mi since last oil/filter change, but that's nearly a year of driving for me. It's been two gas fill-ups since I checked it and it was fine, then. It was scheduled to go in at the end of October for oil/filter change. It's done approx every 7K miles w/synthetic oil. This problem is so frustrating because I'm pretty good about monitoring fluid levels.

I added the 3/4quart of oil I had in car, walked to gas station/convenience store and bought the three quarts they had. That brought the level barely above minimum. I was hoping it would blow itself out but no go.

I LOVE this car. My SIL got it new, and I traded them for it about four years ago. It now has 139k on it. It's been well maintained, no major accidents. And it is paid off. I REALLY REALLY WANT to keep it. And, being a disabled amputee of two years, my very low fixed income would make it impossible to get a newer car.

Do you think this can be saved? New or rebuilt engine? Or just try and trade it in? Or is junking it (😭&#128557 my only option?

I'm still waiting to hear from mechanic. He's had it since Tuesday afternoon, expected to get to it yesterday. I'm getting really nervous. I'm afraid he's just holding off til the end of today to give me bad news. He and his son are great guys, and great mechanics. My whole family and many friends use him. The thing is, they HATE to give us bad news. So, just waiting.... Feeling helpless, nauseous. 😢😢😢
