Default Engine oil on top of the transmission?

noted recently some engine oil (at least it does not smell like transmission oil) on top of the transmission.
I do not see any leaks from the engine -any onehad anything like that?

The car is XC90 V8 with 27000 miles.

If it is on top of the transmission I can't see how it can come from the transmission. Assuming you had your last oilchange performed by the dealer, I would say this is just an oil spill from your last service butsince your 30K service due soon, it wouldn't hurt notifying the service department (get in in writing on your service request). Probably nothing to worry about

Maybe rear cam seal leaking.
It does a good job of hiding behind stuff leaking down.

tech, could you elaborate on that? Where shouold I look?
Thank you.

It can't be an oil spill-oil filler cup is on the opposite side of the engine...

Is it towards the back of the engine?
If so the upper engine mount bracket hides the Cam sensor where it might be leaking from.

Thank you-I will look on weekend-it gets dark early now, by the time I'm home it's too dark. I don't think a flashlight will do, I need sunlight.
