Default First Post/DIM question

Hello all,
My name is Bob and I just bought a 2003 XC90 T6 for my wife. It is far from perfect (has 159K on the clock), but I bought it fairly cheaply, and I have been doing my own work on cars for a few years now.
So, although I will be asking plenty of questions and doing plenty of searches (not my first car forum), I have a quick one for you now.
One of the things acting up with the car is the text window and clock. The text window just gets garbled, and does display a SRS error (which I have not had read yet). The clock will just whirl forward, meaning that the time looks like it is flying, but I am not having that kind of fun.
So, I take it I need to have the DIM repaired/replaced. The question is, can this be driven for a while in this state, or I am asking for trouble if the car is driven? Should I be expecting a total failure any minute?
Thank you for any help,

You can drive it, it won't damage anything else. But any time the SRS light is on, the airbags may not work if needed.

Thank you, ES6T. I am trying to triage the work/money needed to get this thing up to snuff. I have plenty of stuff to get done, and your reply just helped to open up a few options.

No problem. Hopefully it's had the transmission replaced by now.

Transmission? Why?

I'm kidding. Fluid looks good. Shifts smoothly. Rolling the dice, like seemingly all other T6 owners.

pretty much the only one who will be able to scan and clear the SRS code is the dealer. it could be something minor but there's no way to know without the scan. I think the system monitors the seatbelts too because they may be pyrotechnic (in a wreck they will retract to take up slack).

I have a friend at a dealership that should be able to help.

Would indy Volvo shops have the equipment to scan this stuff?

Thanks much,

They should, but depends on how much they want to spend on equipment.
