Help- still have electrical problems- anyone else?
I have a 2006 xc90. After about 30,000 miles, every 800 miles the electrical system goes haywire. The most common warning is the Anit-skid light. I've had the whole dash go out on me a few times. These have been fixed by the dealer.
Now the power system light and the battery light go on and off. Does a battery need to be replaced after 34,000 miles? Oh and I hit a tiny bump and the wipers won't turn off. The anti skid light came back on and also there was a waring about a light bulb that came on once and never came on again.
(BTW, don't even get me started on the tires.)
I'm about to give up on this SUV.
Has anyone else had an electrical system like this?

This sounds like what is happening to a friend of mine, granted she doesn't drive a volvo (she has a 08 caravan) but it was due to her command start. Do you have anything like that in your car?? I have heard that any after market electrical add on's can sometimes mess with the electrical of the vehicle.

In general, European cars have poor electrical/electronic systems and even a negligible fault can trigger ABS/Check Engine Light. Sadly, most modern cars require dealers' testers to reset the computer and they ask $100 or more just to reset the computer, which takes them 3-5 minutes.
In the case of ABS light, have the dealer reset the system. There should be fault code(s) stored in your car's computer, and if the same fault code comes back, yes there is a problem otherwise the computer itself may be faulty (this is often the case for 850s).
As to your battery, you do not determine its life according to mileage of the car. In general, a battery lasts somewhere between 3 & 5 years, depending on the brand, quality and care (I would avoid franchise shop batteries; I have strong trust on the Interstate Battery). There are a few ways to test the battery and it should not cost you much. You can actually buy a couple of testers and test the battery yourself, but I would not recommend this because the battery liquid (electrolyte) is acidic and if it gets into your eye, tough luck.
As to the wiper, I can only suspect the wiper switch being stuck on. This may require minor disassembly. Or it may be a known issue and other XC90 members may be able to give you a solution.
Your charging system may be having a minor problem such as the serpentine accessory drive belt slipping, etc... I could not tell you what to look for, as I do not have a service manual/electrical diagram for the XC90s.

Yes it is a known issue.
Global-scale corporate merging seems to be creating more troubles in the engineering/manufacturing department while making the management happy. If an engineer/a factory workeris worried about losing his/her job, how could they focus on their jobs?
Now I went off the topic.

2006 and 30,000 miles. You should still be covered under warranty. Has your dealer not been able to resolve this issue?
Correction: FYI, in theUS Volvo providesa standard 50K mile warranty - including mechanical & electrical.

Thank you to everyone who replied. I had to have a regional technical master come in to fix the problem. He did and now a year later the whole dashboard went dead today. It still should be covered because I didn't reach 50 K miles yet but this will be the last Volvo I get. Between this and the tires I've had it.
