Default Just bought 2006 XC90 V8, Radio update

Just bought a 2006 XC90 V8. Super clean inside out. Even the paint looks almost perfect, much better than our 2013 Chevy Equinox or even better than our 2017 Q7, lol. With all repair and maintenance records.

Quite excited to join the forum. My first Volvo. It wasn't my plan to buy a Volvo actually. I was mostly looking at old Mercedes ML and GL. But I'm happy with what I got.

Only problem is that infamous anti-skid message. I have done quite some studies, even before checking the car and will work on it this weekend. The seller in fact said he replaced the yaw rate sensor but he now believed the wire connectors were corroded.

I would like to upgrade the radio with Android Auto though. I saw a few options on Amazon or ebay. But they may not be compatible for all xc90. Mine doesn't have navigation, does have a speaker screen (and a speaker below, I assume?) at where the factory navigation would go to. It has rear entertainment system but may not have Aux (I didn't see it yesterday). And the CANbus might have something to do with the setup from what I found and there are multiple versions? So what are my options? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

For the message your first step would be to scan the car with a compatible scanner - then proceed with a reasonable diagnostic path. A common problem is with the ABS control unit - bad connections in it require repair or replacement.

The Infortainment system will be complicated to replace. All of the components of it work by communicating over a MOST (fiber optic) bus. Replacements in xc90 I've seen usually have the control screen still attached and hidden under the passenger seat, with aftermarket stuff rigged into the system. You can find wiring diagrams at volvodiag.com

Your car probably won't have the PHone, subwoofer, or mp1 and 2 modules.

Thank you. That's very helpful. You are right. Mine doesn't have phone, MD or subwoofer. I will look into the radio upgrade. Some systems in Amazon look very simple and elegant. I know they probably won't work even though they say they would. I'm going to give them a try. At worst I return them.

I also realized that the RSE remote probably broke. The terminals are badly corroded. Even after cleaning, it doesn't turn on the RSE and the only way to turn on the RSE is by the remote control? What a setup. This car will only run locally and thus I didn't really care about the RSE and didn't check, but my boy wants to play with it, lol. Any universal remote that can work? I googled and found the one in harbor freight would work but HF doesn't sell it anymore.

One more thing. Looking at the rather extensive records, even though the coolant and brake fluid have been replaced multiple times, I found nothing on the ATF. Well, maybe the ATF indeed can last a long time, lol. The car shift fine and it even has a 05F (I think) number. I'm very positive on the 05 but F wasn't clear. So maybe a good time to change the ATF too, huh?

Thank you!

Finally upgraded with an Android head unit with Android Auto and Apple carplay on this non-AUX XC90 about 2 months ago. Very happy with the results. Also fixed the anti-skid problem this week. Now the AWD is back and running. No mechanical or electrical problem with the car any more.
