Location of Expansion Valve

Hi! New to the forum, thanks in advance!
Can anyone tell me where the expansion valve is and how to access it?
A relative is going to properly discharge my A/C system when I have all my ducks in a row. I have a new front expansion valve and a new dryer/receiver that I'm about to install.
I traced out the piping and am assuming that the expansion valve is behind the firewall to the passenger cabin. I'm really hoping to not have to remove the dashboard.

You are correct. I have a 2007 XC90 and I DIY a remanufactured compressor but I could not locate the expansion valve to replace. The shop drawing showed it located on the firewall inside the engine compartment but when I went to locate it, the ac pipes run through the firewall and the expansion valve is located behind the dash. So I just didn't replace it. I replaced the compressor had it vacuumed and recharged and it lasted two days before it quit. Now I waste about $400...
