Default No heat at all to the floor vents

I am getting almost no heat at all to the floor vents. I am getting outside air when the floor vents are on. The only time the floor vents produced heat is when I used the recycle button. I can't use the recycle too often because it will fogged up inside windows. Cold air to floor vents is great during the summer time, but in the sub zero degree in the winter, no thank you. The interior air filter is new and installed properly.

I had the dealer checked it last winter since it was still under extended warranty and they came back telling me nothing is wrong with the vents because the weather is too cold outside. They also said, there no codes from the climate control...

This is the 2007 XC90 V8 with 70K miles. This is our 3rd winter here in Minnesota - Not sure what to do with the XC90, move to another state or trade it in for a BMW X5 model.

Help!

Jay
(from the sub zero state with a bad floor vent heat).

There should be a actuator which is vacumn controlled to change the location of where the air comes out, either defrost, center vents, or floor. I believe there is a relearn procedure on the xc90. When you take out the battery and reinstall it the first thing that is on when you start the Volvo is the air/AC which it is going through its relearn if I am not mistaken. I would try that or see if the actuator is working correctly.

Judging by your post about the lack of help available here, I suppose you think your wrong information in this post is better than no help?

Wrong posting? Where did I go wrong about having no warm heat from the floor vents (passenger & driver side)?

Please help me understand.

Thank you!

I was referring to Pat's other post in this forum. The info he gave you is wrong and he doesn't know what he is talking about.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer, JAt007. Sound like maybe ES6T knows, since he's calling MustangPat out on his. Maybe the bickering will stop long enough for you to get an actual answer. =)

I am having this exact problem!

My 2011 XC90 (US specs but purchased overseas when we were stationed in Germany - we drove it off the factory lot in Göteborg) has 48K miles and I recently noticed that there's no heat on the passenger nor driver's side. I don't even know how long it's been going on. I don't think I noticed it last winter?

Did you ever get a response? I'm just confused by the rest of the banter on this... LOL.

I've had so many problems with my car that I just don't know where to begin - whether it's a computer problem (the "mirror computer" was completely replaced when the car was 3 months old!), or a flow blockage/disconnect, or a fuse, or.... And sadly, I don't trust our Volvo Service people here. (rant: They have told me I needed things when I didn't, and told me I didn't need things when I DID! In a city/metro area as big as OKC, wouldn't you expect to have a DECENT Volvo service center? *smh*)

Anyway, if you've discovered anything regarding this topic, I'd love to hear! Thanks!

Could be calibration of the vent flaps needs to be performed. All Volvos after 1998 have electric motors to control flaps. They use a potentiometer. Sometimes the computer gets outta whack and it needs to be recalibrated. Done it many times, common problem it seems. Or could be the control module.

Been there done that and they can't find anything wrong with the climate system. They said, it was too cold and my floor had water build-up from the snow and ice, which caused the cold feeling under the feet. We did had some un-human weather here in Minnesota, but my BMW X3 and my Saab did not have any issues with the heat. I did noticed that the cold air come through a lot more on the passenger side underneath the glove box where the cabin light is at. They checked the cabin filter and said, it is correctly installed. The only way to not let the cold air in from the outside is to press the recycle button. However, your windows will fogged up if you have it on too long. This past winter, I wore heavy thick wool socks whenever I drive the XC90. Otherwise, I drive my X3 mainly as much as I can. By the way, this is my wife's car and she loves and always wanted one, so I bought this for her several years back. Boy, I will never buy another Volvo again.

As the weather gets warmer, I will try to do some diagnostic myself and perhaps, drop the glove box and see what's and why the system letting the cold air into the car so much.

Thanks,

Jay

Thanks! I will look into that.

However, it's definitely a problem of no flow - I feel nothing down there (unless it's blowing cold air but I think my sensitive nature would feel the "blower" pressure.) it's the same regardless of using recycle or not.

Appreciate the quick responses!

KerzeDame, have you visited the Swedish Import Repair folks in Edmond? We only use them, not the dealership. Very friendly and helpful!
