Hello, i have a XC90 from 2007 and 149 000 miles. Two weeks ago I was unable to shift on reverse. I mean I was able to put the reverse but nothing was happening when shifting. However the car still drivable for the other shifts.

One mechanical thinks we need to change the transmission fluid.

Another one thinks this is probably the shifter.

Any idea ?

What engine? 5,6, or 8 cyl?
(and Trans fluid change won't fix it, and probably not the shifter!)

Someone (in the right hands) should be able to use a compatible scan tool to determine what signals are being sent to the solenoids in the transmission, no matter which one you have.

 

6 cylinder, 3,2 liter Sport Utility 4D

 

Problem solved apparently !!!

The mechanical was not sure but tried to change the transmission fluids and it worked. It has been one week and no more issues for the moment.

Hope it can help somebody else cause it costed 450 dollars instead of 7700 (a mechanical wanted to replace all the transmission...
