I am sure there are a ton of these but figured I'd be selfish and start my own.


My wife and I have driven Saab's for years. However, her 9-3 is a little long in the tooth at about 220k miles. So, we are moving onto Volvo given the status of Saab.


We are looking at what appears to be a very nice 2008 Volvo XC90. It has about 90k miles on it.


Being that I am new to Volvo's I wondered if you could give me some info on what to look for, ask, etc. or what type of hell on earth we may need to prepare for. I've seen information on this forum regarding problems with transmissions? Was this worked out before 2008? Also, the timing belt discussion has some...conflicting information in it.

I don't know how reliable the 2008's are, but I can tell you that the GM 4T65E transmission was phased out. Those were 4 speeds.
