Angry Radiator Leak due to AC?

Hello -
I searched the forum for this subject and didn't see anything that relates to my issue.

Two weeks ago I started to get the Coolant Low Stop Safely or No Coolant Stop Engine messages. I would refill the reservoir and look every time to see if I could tell where it was leaking. It would not always leak, so I was baffled. Two days could I tell where it was leaking from finally. I replaced the upper hose last night and thought I was good to go. However, I drove it about 15 miles today with the AC running full blast and when I parked it is leaking coolant from the same spot.

Thinking back, it wouldn't leak if the AC was off or running low. It is hot as ***** in Denver right now, so that would have been in the evenings or early mornings for the most part that the AC was running low or not at all.

It is squirting out by the upper radiator hose towards the front of the car (not towards the tank).

What else could the problem be?
And would the AC play a part in this leak?

Thanks in advance!

Running the AC does put an additional load on the radiator since you are pulling hot air from the condenser across the radiator. The radiator is sized for the additional heat so running the AC in itself will not cause the radiator to leak.

I have an XC70 in the shop right now with a leaking radiator and as best we can tell, it is leaking out the passenger side tank or tank seal. We ordered a replacement which will be here next week.

My guess is that yours is the same, either cracked or the seal at the tank has failed.

Well a big boo! I need a new radiator. I am debating on even doing it. I want to go back to a XC70 anyhow.
