Default Radio cutting out

Has anyone had any issues with their radio shutting off and turning back on all by itself? It happened to me today, car was not hot inside but was on for a few hours prior to it happening. It happened about 6 or 7 times them stopped, then a few hours later it did it again a few more times then stopped. Not sure if the radio is going bad or if the heat is getting to it. Like I already said though, the car's air was on and cool inside so I'm sure that wasn't the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

My wife has had issues with the CD player skipping intermitently, but the dealer did not see it happen. Anyone ever have this problem???

Default radio cutting out

Yes, I am losing AM reception. Sometimes it starts after 5 minutes of operation, sometimes longer. Yesterday it just wouldn't receive anything. Both FM bands are working fine. Sometimes I get a fair amount of static as it dies out.

Default Radio needs replacement

The AM radio cutting fading out (and then coming back 100% for a few seconds) was a common problem here in Australia...the dealer admitted having replaced lots of them and they said immediately when I raised the issue that a radio replacement would be needed.

It was done under warranty so hopefully your XC90 is not that old?

Even with a 'good' radio the XC90's AM radio reception is generally quite poor compared to other cars.

There may be available software at the dealer for that, but I would check all your connections on the back and wiggle them to see if you can duplicate it. It is not that hard to remove the radio.

I have had the same problem (also impacts the navigation system) and was told by the dealer it is the ICM (Infotainment Control Module). The replacement was quoted at $1200. I contacted Volvo of N. America and stated I had this problem quite a few times prior to the warranty ending and they provided a $300 credit to the repair. Well after spending the $800 to get it fixed, only a few days later the same thing happened. The dealer has no idea of what is causing the problem. So I will have to leave it with them for a few days. Bottom line expect a vehicle that cost this much to have a more reliable sound / navigation system.

Default GPS system failure

I have the same problem, failed Nav system and on & off radio. If I remove the disc from the navigation DVD unit, which disables it, the radio functions properly.

The Nav unit failed yesterday, the screen only shows that its trying to load & pulses on and off.

Today the radio did the on & off thing at the same pulse rate, untill I removed the nav. disc as mentioned. Somehow the two are connected which I find interesting.

So with the disc out, the radio works fine. Nav unit of course does not. I think the navigation DVD drive unit is the culprit.
