Stereo LCD gone!

Stereo LCD gone!
I need help!
My Stereo LCD on the 2004 XC90 stopped working. It is completly dark but stereo works fine, the LCD stopped working about a month ago, I checked all fuses and they were OK. Volvo dealer wanted $900.00 to replace the entire stereo.
Can I send the LCD for repair somewhere else?
Is there a trick to getting this fixed?

RE: Stereo LCD gone!
nope, I haven't seen any tricks... I notice the ones that is made in japan (ICM) the display + control unit for stereo system doesn't last that long. the ones that is build in Ireland usually replacement unit, do last longer... if possible u can get a used unit from junker and swap the screen out... but it's a delicate and patient is a must type of job. "if u are buying a used ICM to swap the screen make sure u know the different of "DOT MATRIX (when turn on a picture of an XC90 will showed up and usually comes with dolby prologic sound system)" or "NUMERIC(will display "high performance sound system )" display before purchasing. hope this help

RE: Stereo LCD gone!
I suspect the car is out of the warranty? Try eeuroparts.com -they can get you OEM part cheaper then from the dealer if you give them the part #.
The LCD is not a part of the whole "stereo"- it's a part of the control panel for the sound system. You could try removing it -with the battery disconnected (wait 10 min after disconnecting) to remove the panel), and see if there is a bad connection/blown fuse inside the unit?
