I bought a used 2004 xc90 T5. It has 100k miles. When starting cold, the transmission is locked for about 3-4 minutes. It will not shift out of park. Is this a normal function to allow the transmission fluid to warm up and prevent damage or is it a sign something is wrong with my transmission or electronics?

 

The part responsible was just replaced on my daughters car, they said it had something to do with the ignition switch, and had to order the part from Sweden. Not sure what the part name was, as it is my daughters car and she is 200 miles away at college, Paramount Volvo in Hickory made the repairs
Hope this helps. Note they did not replace the key, but something in the ignition switch mechanism itself.
