Default uninstall 2006 xc90 radio

Hello I would like to remove my stock radio in a 2006 xc90 to install an Ipod interface. I have been following this simple guide here http://www.fitaudio.com/?View=entry&EntryID=57 ... The last step says that unscrewing the last screws then how the radio should just slide right out. ..... well it doesnt! I have pulled and tuged in all directions to the point where I am almost breaking the plastic face. Has anyone done this or can give me a pointer.... I do not want to break my wifes cd player. This would not be good
Thanks

the diagram is right-make sure you removed the right set of screws -there are 2 more holding climate control.
the bottom of the radio slides out first i think..

I took out all the screws. There are actually clips attached to the climate control that secure the bottom half (climate control) to the top half (radio). I finally was able to remove the climate control part but not w/o breaking these clips. I don't think they are needed however so this shouldn't be a problem. Seeing that the CD player still didnt just "slide" out after removing the climate controll I had to stop because I ran out of time. Im going to go back at it maybe today. The thing is ... this CD player does anything but "slide right out"
Thanks for the responce.

Step 1: how did you remove the plate around the gear stick (as shown in step 1 ? It says it's held by clips. Where? Which direction to pull? Straight UP?

thanks

yeah this part suprisingly will come off quite easy. Just pull upwards (towards the celing) on the lower corners of this piece. just have the cup holder cover in the open position then stick your hands in there and pull upwards on the piece surrounding the shifter. Give it a little bit of pressure should come out with no problems.
Please let me know how this goes for you. Im curious to see if the next steps are going to give you trouble as they are me. Thanks

Monday I will take it to Volvo and have them tell me how. I will post the outcome. I have been waiting weeks to get this thing in. I purchased an Ipod adapter from www.sonicelectronics.com (great price) ... Wife is getting anxious now for this to be installed..

Do you see the 2 screw circled in red near the bottom of the mentioned guide in the first post... well unscrew the 2 screws below this. They show them half way unscrewed in the image below the one where they are circled in red. The whole entire plastic area that is behind the AC controls also comes out with the radio. I will try to post some images of this along with the install if you would like to see. I have to give thanks to www.sonicelectronix.com and their friendly staff that helped me out (specifically Luke one of their installers) and got me the answer I was unable to find anywhere else.
... Image to come (if this forum lets me post them)...
