heya guys...i just removed and reinstalled my gearknob/lever on my 2004 XC90 and did drive it a bit without the gearknob...it had no prob except for the warning msg of "gearlever reduced function" . anyway i reinstalled the refurbished gearknob and this msg still seems to come on...the gearlever has no reduced function from what i can see as all gears work fine (even the Geartronic funtion) so how do i get rid of the msg?

I think you will need to find somone that can read all the systems that can cleared the codes.

so the only way is to plug the car into the diagnostic machine at the dealer's and reset it?

 

Yes unless you have a Volvo specialist shop near you that can read it.
