Default What in the WORLD just happened to my XC90?

Folks:

XC90 Inscription has 49K miles. Was on the freeway driving along at about 70mph, nice and calm. I noticed what felt like a tire/wheel out of balance. Odd, my tires have about 5K on them and are excellent Michelins and I've not had that issue before. It becomes a stronger and stronger out-of-balance feel. You can see my leg part of my pants start to shake and the steering wheel is feeling lots of vibration. I get worried a wheel is having something bad happen. I see traffic isn't an issue so I signal right and change lanes to get off the freeway. Then, I hit the brake to slowdown to make an exit and it gets even worse. I quickly thought maybe this is something to do with my rotors so I let off of the brakes.....and the car is perfectly smooth. I speed back up to 65, still perfectly smooth. What the?

My only conclusion at this point is perhaps one of the calipers was not fully releasing a wheel, that rotor was getting hot and hotter and started to warp and thus feel so horrible. A hit on the brakes caused that caliper to release.

Anyone heard of something like this?

Also, consider that within the 49K miles, I've had rotors (front) replaced 2x times now--all under warranty. We don't ride brakes; we do drive down mountains in the winter as we ski all winter in Utah. Clearly the rotors are under built or of non-durable materials since 2 sets is FAR too many for only 49K. You would think I towed a BOAT or something (which I don't).

Anyway, wanted to see if anyone has heard of such a strange event happening to them.
