Default Wheels locked?

I am a "mechanically challenged" female that owns a 2005 XC90. I was on my way to work this morning and made it 2 blocks to a stop light. Suddenly I felt a thump and my rear wheels locked. I floored the gas to move it out of the middle of the road.

Having absolutely no idea what had just occured I tried turning it off, tried the emergency brake, and even tried putting it on manual shift. I was ready to try to push it back home when suddenly the rear tires unlocked. I drove it back home and got a ride into work. Anyone have a clue what that could have been?

I'm terrified of getting stuck again.

Sounds like your emergency brakes "delaminated" or came apart. I would have someone look into that and hope that it didn't ruin your rear wheel hubs.

There was a Firestone a block away I drove it to and that is exactly what they told me. Waiting to hear back how much the damage is. Thanks for the info - you were spot on!
