I just acquired a 2009 Volvo XC90 V8 R-Design.
When I looked for the Emergency Spare Tire (fortunately, NOT during an emergency, just taking inventory after my acquisition), it wasn’t there... apparently, by design, since there is a plate, with a Volvo part number (See photo), in the place of the Spare Tire Winch.
Apparently, there is not enough room, since, on the V8 R-Design models, the Dual Exhaust System doesn’t allow enough room for an Emergency Spare in the normal location. Especially, a 20” spare.
I looked in the manual, but there was NOTHING about R-Design Emergency Spare, alternate location(s).
My assumption is that the R-Design may require “Run Flat” technology tires.
I contacted my local Volvo dealer, but it closed permanently, and in its place, an alternate entity, which, seemed more like an insufficient, Socialist Bureaucracy, than a proactive dealership. Heck, they have a Parts Dept., but no one to answer the phones. Yep... Socialism, at your service? Does anyone out there know the truth about this? The Emergency Spare part, not the Socialism part. “The truth is out there.” —Fox Mulder
