Default License Plate Mounting Bracket

Recently purchased an XC60, and want to place license plate frames over my license plates.

Problem is that most license plate frames only have two mounting holes along the top, but the standard Volvo license plate mounting bracket has four screws welded into the mounting bracket frame.

Digging around, I found the part number for the standard Volvo license plate mounting bracket:

9154456 License Plate Retainer Bracket

Here is what it looks like:
http://www.ipdusa.com/version.asp?st...272&V_ID=12421

I have a few options:
- Remove two of the welded screws on the License Plate Retainer Bracket that came standard OR
- Drill holes in the license plate frames

Was hoping there might be a third option. A mounting bracket, either universal or unique to Volvo, that only has a two top screw configuration.

Anyone encounter a similar problem, and found a solution?

I would drill the frame.

What frame is it?

Alumni frames. Reluctant to drill holes, as the bolts will obscure most of the lettering, which kind of defeats the purpose of the frames.
