View Full Version : Dealer won't honor warranty

The driver's side window regulator on my '03 XC90 gave out and had to be replaced. The dealer blamed it on my aftermarket "ventshades" (plastic deflectors) and charged me for the repair. They said they found "scoring" on the top of the glass which proved their point. I told them that the window had been very lightly scratched on top since it was brand new (didn't bother me) but they held their ground and hit me with a bill for $364. I contacted the manufacturer of the ventshades (www.weathertech.com) and they told me it was NOT possible for the deflectors to cause a window regulator to fail. I had this confirmed by another mechanic as well.

While it was there, I told the dealer to check out the noise under the hood which sounded like a loose bearing. They said they didn't hear anything ("couldn't replicate"), but my mechanic heard it loud and clear and found that a pipe from the PCV assembly had broken - I had to pay $649 to get that fixed. The dealer wouldn't reimburse me for that repair because "it wasn't performed at an authorized Volvo facility".

While all this is going on (Friday afternoon), my mechanic had to wait for parts, so I had to rent a car for the weekend at a cost of $176.

Total tab: $1,189 - all for work that should have been done under warranty.

Anyone think I should file a lawsuit or switch to Lexus - or both?

I would contact a regional manager or someone else "above" first, if no response -go to a small claim court.

I would call Volvo cars of North America and talk to them about it.

Make sure you have all the info ready to talk to them. Also save all the old part from your Mech.

Tell them you want the regional tech for Volvo Cars to inspect your car and parts.

I already spoke with Volvocars of North America in New Jersey - they claim that "their hands are tied" because the dealers are independently owned and operated ---- go figure !!!!!

Then make them install the old part and try taking it somewhere else.

Also they are Full of S***.

They can do something about it.

Too late now - this all happened 2 months ago and I'm still fuming over it. I think I'll just file a lawsuit, trade it in and switch to Lexus.

I would file the lawsuit. They screwed you.

Even my wife that used to do Warranty work for Volvo said it was crap that they did that.
