First of all, this is my first Volvo. Always wanted one.
I have a 98 GLT that I need some advice on. I have acquired a parts lot that includes seemingly everything from ECU,Injectors, R exhaust manifold, etc.
All parts are from a 98 R.
Is it possible to bolt this on and have it work ? My car has 144k on it and was religiously maintained by the original owner that I purchased it from.
Any help is appreciated.

The injectors and exhaust should match up but I'd have some concerns about the ECU as that part is matched up to the design/generation of the FI and injection system for a given engine. You can get your GLT ECU tuned - even if its a LPT model. You'd also want to see which turbo is on your car vs your intended design

The turbo that I have acquired is I believe a rebuilt t16?

 

My buddy and I just picked up a 1998 V70 GLT, from what I can tell all you would have to do is have the stock ECU tuned.

 

check which engine your GLT has. Generally there are two turbo designs - the high pressure turbos use the 16T and the low pressure turbos use the 14. 850Ts came with the 15... If you decide to upgrade a low pressure turbo engine by bolting on the 16T, just make sure you are replacing with the correct flange - otherwise you can use the existing turbo housing and replace the impellers (see the ardideas.com web sites for kits ). Once you have the bigger turbo installed then you will need to get your ECU tuned. I'm not sure if you can drop in an ECU from the HPT into an LPT model as they may be different versions of the Bosch Motronics system. You do have the option of getting your ECU tuned - quite a few shops do this and have blue prints for updating.

 

Wouldn't they have different compression ratios? I am just guessing.

I have never had an LPT around the house, so I never had a reason to see if there were any wires in a different spot on the ECU. It might just drop in and work.
