1999 V70 engine dies after starting Advice needed
The motor starts then dies after starting for a few seconds. If I put gear shifter into neutral while it still running, then after it dies put shifter into park, then roll car forward until the automatic gearbox locks, it starts and runs fine. What sensor (or safety switch) is capable of killing engine after it has started running? that the above procedure of moving gear shifter and rolling car Fwd to lock autobox in park would have an affect on so as to temporarily stop the faulty sensor (or safety switch) killing engine? Could it be crank position sensor fault? or camshaft sensor fault? or a sensor or safety switch effected by auto shifter position? Would appreciate guidance
cam and crank position sensors would not be in play (besides, they'd throw a code if they failed to report to the ECU). I think you are on the right rack with the PNP switch in the shifter as that does loop into the start function to keep you from engaging the starter with the car in gear. The other thing I'd look into the brake pedal position sensor as that also plays into the shifter interlock.
