I started having an issue where my 2000 V70's rear liftgate stopped latching. I've removed the locking/latching mechanism, and even with a screwdriver the mechanism doesn't work. I assume I need to replace the mechanism. I've included a video of me trying to get it to work with a screwdriver.

Am I missing anything, or should I just replace the mechanism?

I thought mine wasnt latching but it was just that it had to be shut harder. If that doesnt work, and youve changed everything out, it must be the door isnt alligned correctly or something is blocking the latch.

 

I've replaced a few latches over the years. They are not that expensive and not hard to change. The internal mechanism can wear out, get bent, or whatever else time and use brings on.
