2004 V70 coil pack conundrum
Hello, group. I'm looking for advice:
I changed the spark plugs on my Volvo and now it's giving me the "Reduce speed or shift up" type of message. I read in a thread that it could be a bad coil pack, especially if one had a hard time removing one. In my fourth cylinder I had to pull pretty hard to maneuver the coil pack out and the spark plug was tighter than the rest. This pack was different than the others, which makes me wonder if it was replaced at some point. I was diligent about putting the coil packs in the same order as I pulled them out, but I'm going to double-check it later. My car has roughly 219,000 miles on it. Should I replace all the coil packs? Have I made a terrible mistake? (I don't have the start-up capital to pay a mechanic, otherwise I'd take it to the shop.) Please halp.

A lot of times the rubber boot on the coil pack will stick inside the plug well. If the boot is torn, then you can have spark jump across and ground on the aluminum cylinder head.
Before going any further, pull out all of the coil packs, remove all of the boots and inspect them that they are clean, free of oil and not damaged. Then, see how it goes.

Technical question: Are iridium plugs bad for Volvos? That's what they sold me at the part store but I just saw on another thread that they're bad for Volvos? It's NPK, which is what was in there before. The gap out of the box was good.

Whoa....if you have coil packs that have a spring and then a small piece of connecting wire that touches the bottom of the coil, then throw all of those in the trash. I've seen that design and just canned a set like that.
With things falling apart, you can easily drop something down inside the cylinder with the plug out.
Here's a set that I just bought and they are working just fine. I have an extra since it comes in a pack of six.

Those look like what I have. I guess I didn't describe it well.
This is with the boot off.
It's not the best view, but you can see the tip of the cone-shaped thing on the left and where it's missing on the right.
