Engine Rebuild (Timing Tensioner Bounce Issue) 2006 V70 2.5T
Greetings,
I just finished a rebuild on my 2006 V70 2.5T after I bent a few valves from a timing belt snap on the highway. All the valves were replaced, lapped, new seals all around, full-timing belt kit including water pump. I start her up and she sounds great!
The issue comes when I go through a full visual inspection and I see that the timing belt tensioner (Temp Arm) is bouncing back and forth about 2-3 mm. I figure this is not normal and proceed to google the issue... and yes this is not normal. At this point, I have replaced the idler pulley and the tensioner arm and the issue is still present. I'm at a loss at this point.
Perhaps the engine just needs time to break in? More likely I am missing something... Any input is appreciated!!!!

Did you set the tension correctly? I remember there is a specific process for this. It goes on with little tension and once you're set with the belt back on, you turn the tensioner to a certain time (like on a clock) for proper tension. If i remember correctly there are two different tension settings you can set it to.

Yes, the tensioner is set properly according to temp and torque spec 15 N/m. On another note, the timing belt is riding on the engine side of the cam sprockets. Perhaps a symptom to the issue.
The timing belt is stable (Does not wobble) but, it likes to ride on the edge of the cam sprockets by the block.

Yes, the silver piece with the 6mm hex cutout is what I used to adjust the tension. In doing so the temp indicator tab (Grey) moved to the center position in between the two silver tabs on the top for a "Warm" engine. Once set I locked down the 12mm bolt to 15N/m that holds the assembly in place.
