Default Changing trans fluid

2002 XC 70 130K mi.

At this point I've kinda ruled out a full flush (again at this point). My plan is to do a drain/refill 2-3 times to replace the majority of the trans fluid. We all know that Volvo brand at $26 is a total rip off so here are my questions:

1) I've read that Mobile 3309 is non-synthetic and basically a direct replacement for the Volvo brand. I's this correct?

2) Because I bought the car used I have no idea what is currently in the trans....conventional or synthetic. Am I ok doing the trans. fluid change as I stated above with the 3309 not having any idea what is currently in the trans?

Thank you.

3309 refers to a specification, JWS 3309. Any fluid that meets that specification is fine.

Conventional or synthetic, whichever one may currently be in the trans...basically who cares?...3309, put that in it and don't worry about anything else?

Thank you.

I don't know if anyone makes a synthetic 3309 spec fluid. If it meets those requirements, it's fine. Its just a spec, like Dex III or the API ratings on motor oil.
