Suggestions on changing trans fluid...
I have a 1998 V70 GLT and I got it from my brother who sells cars and he gets the cars either at auctions or dealer auctions. It has 205XXX on it and I am a little nervous of doing this. Trans shifts fine just will be checking the fluid to see how it looks.

Check the level of the fluid on the transmission dipstick.
Note there are both hot and cold min/max levels marked on the stick.
Better to check with a cold engine.
Fresher ATF will be red in color but older fluid may appear more brownish depending on how dirty it is.
If it smells burnt it definately needs replacing.
Ensure the level is not too low or overfilled.
Your transmission should have a DEX III ATF. not JWS3309 spec'd fluid required for later Volvo's (post 2000)
If you go for replacing your ATF use the gentler 'drain and fill' method not a power flush

You might want to start out by checking in the forum set for your car model, the S70 section. Then read through a few STICKY threads. After that post questions about your model car in the section set for your car, you will get quicker responses there, and a lot more other help.

2000 v40 trans
From what I understand the 2000 is a "split"model year for the v40.
Its difficult to ascertain certain parts...my 2000 v40 is the older style trim....would these differences also include the tranny?
