Default Ignition won't cycle to off and release key intermittently

I have tried searching but not found anything on this topic.

I have a 2004 Volvo XC70 with around 111,000 miles and this problem has occurred on and off the past 20,000 miles or so. After driving the car I go to cycle the ignition to the off position but it won't go all the way to off, it just gets stuck at the accessory position. It seems to help things go quicker when I try cycling the key back and forth until it finally goes all the way to off but oddly if I just wait about 1-2 minutes after turning the engine off I hear a click and then it goes to the off position when I turn it. This only seems to happen every 5-10 times I drive the car or so. It's been more frequent in the past and less common lately. Has anyone ever run into this one?? Someone suggested bumping the shifter but this seems to have no effect on the process.

Thanks!

Jordan

Make sure that the vehicle's gear shifter is fully in park with the button in the relaxed position.
