Default 2008 XC70 Rear passenger door lock mechanism

I am about to replace the door lock mechanism on my 2008 XC70, because out of the blue we started getting a message indicating that the rear passenger door is open even though it is tightly closed and locked. Since the car has keyless entry, you can lock both front and rear passenger doors and the drivers side rear door with the interior manual door buttons or the electrical button on the drivers door, but upon exiting the vehicle, the drivers door unlocks and will not lock with the key fob(wireless). The notification screen indicates the rear passenger door is open. I contacted a Volvo dealer and his assessment over the phone was that the micro switch in the door lock mechanism is faulty so the entire unit needs to be replaced. I asked if there was a way to over ride that feature but he said no. I have done repairs like this on other vehicles so I thought I would get the part and do it. I just received the door lock mechanism and took the door panel off to find a large metal mounting plate where the door speaker and window motor are mounted. After removing the screws I thought I would have some play to be able to release the window mechanism but have not had success with my attempts and thought it better to ask for some guidance before I break something since it all looks like plastic in that area. Anyone have any advice on how to remove this mounting plate and get access to the door latch mechanism? Thanks
