So I was going to replace my cars PCV system because the car is very old and has 330000 miles on it. Before I bought the parts I saw there is a return hose to the oil pan for the separator box. I had no idea there was a hose for the return from the oil separator. Does this need to be replaced? How does one go about replacing the return hose if it goes into the engine block? Is it worth it to replace or should I ignore it? I really want this car to keep going because it has sentimental value. Please help!

 

Does it need to be replaced? If it's not wasted leave it alone! If it's bad, it goes "into the engine block" by some attachment which is meant to be disconnected.

 

I have a 1993 940 turbo wagon. I took the advice of an IPD sales guy and while replacing the separator box and all other PCV system parts, I tried to replace this rubber hose that goes from the bottom of the oil separator box into the block and down to the oil pan. The old hose was brittle and hard and I broke the top 1.5 inches off trying to remove it. The bottom of the hose (about 10 inches) is now stuck in the block and after 3 hours of trying to get it out, I've given up and am looking for alternatives to getting the car back on the road. The hose has a bend in it about 2 inches down from the top and I think that bend is what is hanging it up but I think because the hose has lost all flexibility, I can't get the rest of it out . But you mention an attachment. Can you tell me more about this attachment and how to access it?

Here is what I'm considering as a quicker fix: Could I cut the top 1.5 inches off the new hose and install it in hopes that gravity does the job of conveying the oil from the new hose to the part of the old hose still in the block? I guess I don't understand the purpose of this hose and why it has to go all the way through the engine block and into the oil pan. Wouldn't it be sufficient to just get the oil from the separator box back into the block?

Any advice would be appreciate on how to get this put back together.

From what I remember there is a clamp or something holding it in place in the bottom of the block, maybe attached to one of the oil pump bolts. You take the oil pan off to get to it.
