Volvo S60R loud screetching sound
Hello,
I'm new to the forums here but recently purchaseda used 2006 Volvo S60R.
I love the car and hope its going to be as good as my last S70.
Here in Canada we do see our share of the snow and I've recentlynoticed an issue that I'm hoping someone can help me out with or point me in the right direction. It seems that on snowy and slushy days once i drive through the slush the car begins to make a lould squeeking or screetching noise that appears to be coming from the rear of the drivetrain. I had one tech test drive the car and he thought it may be a rear disc brake shield that is scraping onthe rotor. I check and it seems that both rear break rotor guards are attached properly and don't have any play in them.
I was wondering if anyone else has run into this issue or maybe heard of anything like this.
The help is greatly appreciated. Cheers.

RE: Volvo S60R loud screetching sound
I meant on how to fix the screetching sound. I appreciate your help. I originally thought this may be a serious problem but by the sounds it may be just something getting clogged byt he slush and scraping. If you find the fix post down the road don't hesitate to forward it. Thanks again.

Hi, I have your answer. I recently purchased a 07 S60R in Alabama with 34K miles on it. As I was driving it back to Louisiana I was caught in a heavy rain downpour and experienced a loud screetching sound. It scared the hell out of me. I haven't even gotten it home yet. When the downpour stopped it went away. Any way I have a friend who is a head mechanic at the local Volvo dealership before I could finish describing it he said rain squeal. Its common on AWD's. The exhust needs to be shimed with washers because it expands when water hits it when its hot. The exhust is so tight against the body this happens. It took them 4X's to correct it each time was an improvement. I looked for the shims and found almost a dozen washers pulling it away from the body. They are located at the last support of the exhust system.
The only noticeable change you will see is the tips are much further away from the body now. That is your fix my man.
Good luck its a easy fix really......
