Default '95 850 Cd Changer woes

Hi everyone, I'm new to Volvo's. Bought a '95 850 a couple of weeks ago, factory CD changer in the trunk, but no CD magazine present. Called the dealership they said they listed one part number, ordered it it came in within a couple of days, paid $47 +tax for it. It will not fit into the CD changer as it is much too big, height and width. I will contact the dealer again tomorrow but I am thinking somewhere along the line Volvo either changed manufacturers or the manufacturer updated the design of the magazine. What other options do I have? Is there an aftermarket CD changer that can be controlled with the factory SC-811 head unit, (I don't want to go the FM modulator route) or is there another CD changer offered by Volvo for reasonable price that will use the available magazine and plug into the 8 pin plug I have in my trunk. I would like to keep the factory head unit , otherwise I would just go to an aftermarket head unit.
Also the dash tweeters don't seem to work can someone offer up a fairly easy swap for those as well.

any help is greatly apprieciated Thanks
ebrobb

Do you have the 6 or 12 disc changer?
The changers are Alpine changers made for Volvo.

With an adapter you can install a Alpine and it will work with the radio controls.
You can search in the 850 section I know we have talked about this before and there might even be a site and part# for the Adapter.

I have the 6 disc changer, I'm sure this topic has been covered, but I looked through both this and the 850 forum until my eyes are ready to bug out of my head and can't find it. Is there a way to search the forum that I can't seem to find?

Check out this post and if you want to go the Alpine way contact RP850 and see where he got the Adapter from.

Hi,

If I were you I'd try to stick with the factory changer you have and find the right magazine that goes with it. I'm surprised your Volvo dealer cannot find the right magazine but I can't help there. Here are my thoughts...I *believe* that Volvo changers are made by alpine. I have a CHM-S620 which works perfectly with the SC-811 OEM radio. I needed what's called a VOLALP adapter to make it all work that costs $30. However, before you go that route, it might be worth a shot to look at the magazine that goes to the Alpine CHM-S620. Alpine's part number for the magazine is KAE-116. Here's a picture of it:

Note that the KAE-116 has a little hook on the right side of each disc tray. You have to look closely. I think that's what sets them apart from other magazines.

I'd also try to find a picture on ebay of the CD changer you have. Then maybe you can get an idea of what the magazine looks like. Here's what I mean...

ebay 8056163749

keep looking until you find your changer and then you can get an idea of what magazine you need.

As far as the dash tweeters go, my bet is that they rotted out long ago. Easy enough to check by pulling the speaker grills. I'm sure you can find someone selling used OEM tweeters on ebay for cheap.

Hope this helps and good luck. Hate to see you spend $100-up for another changer because you cant't find a $20 magazine...
