My sunroof will not work on my 2000 V40. I explored some threads here that suggests it may be my alarm circuit. Interestingly, my alarm does not go off any longer when i try to unlock with my key but it does go off if I depress the panic button on my keyfob.

Additionally, when I depress the buttons (see photo) to actuate the vent or slide back function I can hear a distinct click, but no motor whirring sounds. I have considered removing the alarm circuit fuse as suggested in this forum but the fact that the alarm sounds off when I depress the panic button suggests that this fuse is not the issue. Maybe it is just a blown fuse for the sunroof? One thread calls out fuse #26 for the alarm circuit - Im not sure if that is correct for my 2000 V40 though.

Any thoughts on the loction for the alarm circuit as well as the sunroof fuse for my model V40? Any additional thoughts or guidace would be appreciated.

The alarm info is not for your car - it's for a 01-07 s60, vxc70, some s80's. On those cars the sunroof module is next to the alarm module on the can bus. A bad alarm module can cause problems with the sunroof. But not yours -

You car has a simple circuit - but it does have a sunroof control unit (4/11). Should be able to test power from the switch to the sunroof module after checking fuse 12 in the b fusebox. And even manually apply 12v and ground to the motor (with jumper wires) to see if it works.

 

Wow. Thanks Hoonk. Great information! Just the direction I was looking for. I think my first step should be the easiest - check the fuse. Here's the rub though - I don't see it listed on the interior fuse box (see pic). When I check the fuses in the box under the hood, still no dice. Kooky, huh? You would think "sunroof" would be specifically listed. Do you think the sunroof shares one of these fuses? If so, which one - best guess. I'm reluctant to just start pulling them ***** nilly.


This is a second car for me and I am giving it to my neice. I would like the sunroof to work if possible, but it's not essential.

The #12 fuse powers all sorts of other things - so if they work the fuse is good

 

Yeah, all those other items associated with that fuse work fine. I may just try to access the motor and jump it. Thanks to your diagram, I see where it is located.

Sunroof progress update: So, the motor works - I can see the brownish plastic **** (see pic) spin about a quarter turn when I depress the sunroof function buttons. I can see the armature in the motor turn. I think that brownish plastic **** is associated with the mechanism that controls the function - either slide the glass backwards, or pop the back up to vent. I think that component is shot.

Full disclosure - the last time I tried to operate the sunroof was a few months ago. It labored to open and then close. Then it stopped working. I don't use this vehicle much and the sunroof even less. It may have been a year or more since it was operateed. Upon closer inspection, I noticed a great deal of corrosion on the track assemblies on either side. I liberally sprayed PB Blaster to lubricate the assemblies thinking that would remedy the issue. It did not despite visibly seeing all components free to operate.

Gotta pick your battles. I guess I can live with a sunroof that does not work any longer. Thanks for all the help. Thanks for the diagrams Hoonk
