2005 GPS voice not working
Dear Forum members:
I've got myself back with Volvo, this time with a 2005 XC90.
The car is great, but the GPS (factory installed) works nicely, It is possible to select the voice / language and volume of the announcements in the setting menu, but don't have the voice announcements while driving, which is a very frustrating thing.
I took back at the dealer twice to have this checked, and they returned saying that this is a first generation GPS and voice was not existent. Which really surprises me.
Now... can any one confirm the dealer comments? Or are they just blowing smoke?
Thanks for the help guys!

heres a couple of questions that would help me figure it out:
when you change the volume settings for the voice guidance, does the chime or sound come one?
has the recent update disc been installed into the car?
is the vehicle from over seas? when i was in colorado we got a lot of military people bringing xc90s over from europe and the complaint was that the voice guidance worked in europe but not in the US. so check the menu to see if it says eu or something else.

Hello Damie360.
Let me answer your questions one-by-one.
Yes... Both the sounds and voices are audible in the settings view.
No... the Discs that came with the car are from 2005 (US and Canada). Although the Dealer claims that the vehicle software was updated.
Yes. The vechicle came with documents that shows that it was originally bought by a Military person based in Germany. The car was shipped back to the US in late 2007.
I don't recall anything on the menu, but the car has indeed all the western Europe voice modules installed.
I'm wondering that the voice don't work because the system is expecting to find the "audio tracks" for each language on the DVD, and because it don't match with the languages installed, no voice activation comes up.. can that be?
How can I change this?
