Default ETM Warranty

Hi, Anyone interested in the ETM debate should read on.
I thought i would contact volvo Australia and ask the question.
Will Volvo Australia be introducing the same new ETM warranty as in North America..
Here is there response..

Dear Mr *****,

Thank you for your email in relation to the Electronic Throttle Module (ETM)

At this stage Volvo Car Australia do not have an extended warranty for the ETM and therefore any repairs that are carried out after the original car warranty expires is reviewed on a case by case basis.
If you are experiencing any concerns with your vehicle I would suggest contacting your authorised Volvo Retailer who will be in the best position to assist you further with your concern.

A full list of retailers is available by visiting our website www.volvocars.com.au and selecting the 'contact a retailer' link.

Thank you once again for your email and if you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me on 1300 787 802, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 8:30am and 6:00pm.

Kind Regards

Just looked under my hood and it looks like I have the Magneti Marelli/Denso setup. I emailed the closest dealer (Louisville, Kentucky) and asked what they were doing in terms of towing etc., since I'm 50 miles from the dealership. They just called back and said that basically I have to be having a problem for them to be able to do anything. I would have to have a check engine light on. I jokingly asked how to get a check engine light and he said to leave the gas cap off. I'm thinking about writing to Volvo NA and telling them that I will hold them personally and corporately responsible should I, my family, anyone in the vehicle with me, as well as anyone in another vehicle that might impact my car in the event of a failure, be injured. Probably wont get me anywhere but at least I'll get it off my chest. I think the next thing should be for all affected Volvo owners to petition the NHSTA to do a recall.

Well, the shame of the whole deal is that...................the replacement unit is identical to the defective one. You will be able to go another 50,000 miles or so before the "new" one fails. Apparently the replacement is not Bosch or an updated Marelli unit. This is what my Volvo dealer explained to me. Volvo probably hopes that you have traded off or junked your auto by the next failure......
