ford involvment

RE: ford involvment
Yes, old news.
Fords trying to stop it's hameraging of cash.
trying to sell of the PAG section.
There were two main (private) buyers in sweden for volvo. Sadly for volvo, ford realised volvo was too profitable and have decided not to sell volvo at all.
JRA (Jag/rover/austin) is in the procees of being sold to TATA.

I have a volvo S80 T6 and 3 Ford Lincoln Towncars and have got to say that the ford engines they have fitted (4.6 V8) are excellent! No grumbles at all, not had any problems and they are easy to work on!
Unfortunatly all cars are starting to interbreed these days, My brother bought a new Jaguar he thought he was the bees knees till he was told it was a ford mondeo with a body kit on it! Not just down to the engine but event the pedals, clocks, and many other things where the same as a mondeo! (I had to laugh)

And I want to add my thoughts on the Ford'ization of Volvo.... In general, it cannot be a good thing. My suspicion is that they took a great vehicle and cheapened it up everywhere they could. It will be interested to see how much the newer Volvos rust, and corrode which includes the bolts/nuts. On the 94 940 we had and the 94 850 we have now, it amazes me the condition that the body and fasteners are in for the age and the fact they they are MASS cars.

Ford trucks are incredibly durable too, well at least those that were made in the early '90s. They are by no means sophisticatedvehicles andthe interior was so bland and the body was literally falling apart from rust. However, with proper maintenance they are extremely durable and cango a long way.
I personally do not like one mfg taking over the other, because it may affect the originalquality, design philosophy & spirit. Would you want a Cobra that has a Honda motor in it? I wouldn't. Sadly, marketability & profitability overpower these elements, unlessus the customers patronise mfgs.
Shall we write to Ford or Volvo not to degrade Volvo?

After all, they've been destroying volvo's since 98.
Besides, with ford at the helm do you really think any correspondance will go any further than the rubbish bin ?

RE: ford involvment
You couldn't kill the straight six 170c.i. or the 289, the Cleveland was good but the Windsor wasn't. The 4.8 may be good but the 3.8 was a nightmare and I don't think they ever made a decent 4 cyl.
A very mixed past that doesn't bode well for Volvo's reliable history.
Now, let's consider what Ford'snotorious rusting body and frame influence might have?

It's not where it's made.
It's who controls the purse strings and design sheets that will determine the life of the car.
If (when) ford tell the metal suppliers to use recycled allfoil, then that's what he car will be made off.
Every car I've had dealings with, it's the one's with ford parts that have the most trouble.
As far as I'm concerned, if it has FoMoCo stamped on it, that's as good as a death sentence for that part.
Lets not forget the lessons of history.
Detomaso panteras that used to burn to the ground or basicly explode when rear ended. Half of it's parts were FoMoCo.
Jags have major mech problems (FoMoCo parts again).
Mazda, same again.
Volvo, same again.
Rover, Yet again.
When ford go belly up or stop screwing other companies, it will be a good day.
Ford have some reasonable ideas, but they don't know when to leave a good thing alone.

Wait,don't forget to add"Pinto" on your list[8D].
Some of the Motorcraft parts are made in certain parts of Asia and the quality.....if there is such a thing (I exclude made in USA parts; they are generally of good quality, except for some electrical/electronic devices & body steel that falls apart from rust, which is also same for many Japanese cars). I once had an '87 Escort (the very worst car I can remember, closely followed by '06 Suzuki Forenza, which is a Kia's OEM) and that car was a full of wonderful problems. Fuel line vapour in hot climate killing the engine, ignition module (electronic device) installed right on top of distributor that got red hot that killed the ignition system, CFI (Central Fuel Injection; a single fuel injector inside the air cleaner, which almost looks as if it were a carbureted engine) that stalled the car for no apparent reasons, etc... But wait till you work on some Fords, they use a mixture of Standard + metric nuts & bolts.....[8D]. I would like to sit with the guy/gal who came up with this creative idea and ask some questions over a cup of coffee.....[8D].
I personally think execs in all industries are getting overpaid but the end products seem to come out in opposite relation to how much the execs get paid[8D]. I think they should take better care of factory workers who are getting their hands dirty and trying to make living in a possibly hazardous & dangerous work environment. If they feel they are valued, they wouldn't come to work drunk.....well I could be wrong, what do I know about management, I'm a grease monkey myself and am proud of it.

Ford now owns quite a few mfgs' stocks and have control over their product development as well. Ford's web page has a list of the mfgs it owns. I believe Ford calls the other brands as "PAG: Premium Auto Group". Even though I do like some of Ford's cars & trucks, I wouldn't buy a Volvo that has engine made by Ford.
I don't know why Yamaha has been supplying automotive engines. I believe they once supplied the motors for Taurus SHO. Yamaha does make motorbikes, marine vehicles, snow mobiles & musical instruments etc... but I do not believe they make 4-wheelers, at least in their homeland.
Well, someday when I make enough to buy a new car, and if it were a new Volvo with Ford motor in it, I would yankthe motorout and put Volvo motor, even if it's a used motor[8D].

I'm not saying other breeds don't have problems.
But at least they (normally) own up to them and try to fix them.
Std practice for ford and any ford subsidury, is to deny everything, accuse the customer of lying/mistreating/being an idiot, and generaly not honoring anything waranty.
Service staff and management know squat about their own product and couldn't care less.
I (sadly) speak from first hand experience.
Will NEVER have anything to do with a product touched by ford.
Hence why I have a 96 volvo.
