Hot start 1990 Volvo 740 GL Wagon
I own a 1990 740 GL wagon, it over heated on me 2xs. I have replaced the gasket but never had the heads surfaced or pressure tested. The second time it over heated it had too much pressure so I took it in to get resurfaced and the mechanic said we didn’t have to pressure test it, what? Ugh! He instead fixed 2 rusted holes. So I replace the gasket and put car together. The car starts and idels fine but as it heats up it starts to idle higher and then low then high again on it own, when you turn the car off it will not start again. Does anyone have any idea what the cause is? Please help!
6/15/19: I tried starting the car and it would not start I cracked it for a really long time, then pumped gas and cracked, it was trying to start but did not. Then I cracked a long time again and it was starting to start really slow. I then pumped gas and it was putting so I let it do it’s thing and then pumped a little gas and it was starting. Then it reved on its own. And the engine was ideling ok. So I drove it home. Oh, I forgot to say I drove it for 4 min. Before trying to start the car, And it stopped at lights. I tried starting it for 1/2 hour. I’m not sure what to look for at this point! I replaced a ETC sensor could that be the problem. Maybe defective? I don’t know! I need someone’s advice! I’m super desperate! Ugh! I don’t have money to take it to shop.

I Found my own problem, LOL!
It was the ETC sensor! Car started right up as soon as I replaced it! I didn’t realize, that little part causes so much problems with your car! Unbelievable! It was new, so I didn’t think of replacing it! The first time my car over heated, it melted it, so I replaced it and the second time it starting over heating, I didn’t think of it but it did look a little damaged and loose and a little melted under bolt. I’m happy my car is fixed!!!
