Good Morning everyone
I had a mysterious problem with my 95 960 in that periodically and at the most inappropriate times ( self serve gas pumps) with a line up waiting to gas up for some reason the starter would not engage. This also happened when I was got to the office and parked the car on a slight grade (left to right) it would also not engage the starter. We installed a new battery ...no change!! Installed a new starter...thought we solved the problem..no change!! Installed another starter ...seemed to solve the problem. I purposely went to the parking spot (slight grade) and sure enough the new starter would not engage....I telephoned the garage and they sent over a mechanic but sure as blazes when he tried it ...it started. I described the problem to a Volvo expert in Renfrew Ontario and he told me to change the Neutral Safety Switch....this did the trick...no more problems and I have tried every grade in our town and the starter engages every time. hope this helps someone!!!
