Default Plastic Piece on Front Belly of Car

I drive a '99 S70 with 100,000+ miles. The large black plastic piece under the front of the car got cracked and pretty-much fell off. The guy at the shop said that it wasn't really needed and that just ripping it off would be an okay solution. Volvo parts don't come cheap so saving the money is fine with me. Any reason why I SHOULD replace it? thanks.

Hey Pawn, I would replace it. It makes the air flow smothly under the car and lessens the turbulance under there. It will also keep all the road debris from all over your suspension and engine. I got one online pretty reasonable. Mine broke too.

Replace it asap. Look under the car and you will see all kinds of things that can get damaged. Radiator comes to mind. I had mine break. I had a piece of sheet metal laying around and I rigged it together with some screws until I could get a new plate.

I would say replace it to. I have seen many condensors for the A/C system broke because it was missing.

Also when you get a new one becareful how close you pull up to Parking Stops. That is what usually breaks them.

I read this thread and remembered that my bottom shield came off the R right before I did all that work on it and it was still off. Last night I went home and did some repair work on it with sheet metal and pop rivets, and put it back on. I had totally forgotten that it was not on there. Just looks like you are asking for trouble not having it on.

This is actually not the same piece. This does not cover the radiator or condensor lines.
