Default safety switch

on my 98awd there is an arrow by the check engine light. It used to come on when I would shift into low.Now the arrow started flashing. The car seems to run o.k.but shifts a little ruff.A machanic said it was the safety switch. Can you tell me what it's function is? And what this could indicate? Thanks

There is a lot about flashing arrows throughout the forum. You need to have the car checked and repaired.

a flashing arrow light means there is/are DTC's in the TCM. In other words, there is trouble codes in your transmission system. for sure, that's not a safety switch. I suggest u take it to a volvo dealer and get a VOLVO SYSTEM TESTER to get a proper diagnosis before u spend money on parts.

We could pretty much negate a lot of the forum if everyone would just pop $500 for a DICE scanner. Then it could just be an rwd forum.
